On arrival in Fortaleza, in Brazil’s tropical northeast you will be taken to Jericoacoara, 3 hours drive away, where you’ll snuggle down in a tree house and wake up in paradise. Jericoacoara is a beach town located on the coast close to the equator, in the state of Ceará. It was, until about 15 years ago, an isolated fishing village, without any contact with modern civilization. There were no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TVs, no newspapers, and money was something almost useless, since deals were based on trading fish for goods. Known to locals as simply ‘Jeri’ it magnetises travelers with its perfect combination of isolated location, stunning coastal scenery, exhilerating activities, great pousadas, restaurants and nightlife.

The village’s six sandy streets are wedged between a broad beach, a series of grassy hills, and the majestic Pôr do Sol (Sunset) dune. It is an easy place to make new friends and once you settle in, you are extremely likely to want to stay longer than planned!
You will stay at the Vila Kalanga in a tree-house room (or hut on stilts). Situated on the water front surrounded by palm trees, lush tropical vegetation and other worldly sand dunes, the Pousada Vila Kalango is located at the edge of Jeri. It has 18 guest rooms all constructed from natural material and vaulted onto stilts, where guests can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while relaxing in hammocks on the rooms private decks.

You can also tuck into some delicious Brazilian food at the on-site restaurant, or spend your time unwinding at the swimming pool and pool side bar. It is rustic more than luxurious, but it feels very Brazilian and is a great place to chill. Once you’ve relaxed to the tempo of Jeri, you can go dune-buggying around the amazing dunes (they are especially beautiful at sunset), go kite-surfing, or alternatively there are calm hikes and horseback rides plus radical sports, such as windsurfing and sand-boarding.
