Here’s a story about how we put a unique trip together for one of our clients. Hopefully it inspire you to take your own…

When someone says they want a trip around the world, you’d expect they’ve got a good few months to spare. But this wasn’t the case when Rob decided that there were a few iconic ‘must sees’ on his list.

diving in iceland

Being incredibly busy working on his business in Canada, when a window of opportunity cleared in his diary, Rob wanted to make the most of it. With at least 7 of the world’s most amazing locations on the wish list but with only 14 days to see them all, I had the opportunity to weave together a really unforgettable Philleas Fog style experience.

Taking all Robs requirements, we set about planning the trip down to the last tiny detail. The focus was creating a trip that encompassed all peters goals in a tight frame whilst covering vast distances. When you’re embarking on a once in a lifetime trip, you don’t want to just arrive, take a photo and leave, however short on time you might be. This meant finding ways to really immerse Rob in each destination and make his stays, however brief, truly memorable.

under the ocean
Diving was first on the list, but not just any old diving. As a capable diver Rob was looking to experience some of the world’s most challenging conditions.  And Iceland’s Silfra Rift provided just that. The Rift is the only place in the world where you can dive between the earth’s tectonic plates making this a truly a once in a lifetime experience. The purest crystal clear water melted from the glacier and filtered through lava fields is not the only reason why this is a spectacular dive. The only possible option to up the stakes was to traverse the globe to South Africa and Great White Alley, the home of one of the world’s most fearsome predators. Being suspended in the ocean, in a cage, surrounded by sharks is not one for the faint hearted.

As we’ve learnt so far, Rob is not one to hang around so from there the course we charted headed East.

adventure in the east
India and the iconic Taj Mahal was the next destination on the list even if it was only for a day. Rob arrived into Delhi at 5.30 AM, jumped on a private

flight to Agra and was exploring the Taj Mahal with an expert guide by mid-day. By 8.00 that evening the plane was disappearing into the distance to take him to the next destination.

Beijing, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City also made the wish list so a quick hop to China enable Peter to see some more incredible places. Having booked to travel on the first commercial Galactic Flight it seemed fitting that he should see the only landmark visible from space at closer proximity. The best way to see the Great Wall (other than from orbit) is without the tourists and all the better if you can take your time to enjoy it. Seeing as this was one thing we were short on, we arranged for Rob to enjoy a private banquet on the wall. Explorers have still got to eat.

lasting impression
There are some things in life that leave a lasting impression and the events at Hiroshima was one of them for Rob. So from China we flew him to Japan and arranged for him to visit the Hiroshima Peace Museum. And who better to give a true understanding of the events and their affects than the Director of the Museum and a survivor of the bombings. This amazing experience was the grand finale to a whirlwind trip and one that would be hard to forget.
