The see-sawing that’s going on between Cuba and the US is enough to make anyone a little disorientated.
One minute the US travel ban looks like it’s soon to be a thing of the past, the next thing Cuba and the States seem to have a million miles of Ocean in between them.
But one thing that both countries have agreed on is that the Gulf of Mexico
is incredible for diving, something we’ve been saying for a while now.
The countries have made a pact to pay closer attention to the azure waters between them and a team of lucky US and Cuban scientists – there are 60 in all – will get to slip beneath the waves and monitor the amazing diversity of sealife that is in abundance in the region.
Climate change, coral reefs and pollution levels will also come under the spotlight, as the two countries announced plans to protect the ecosystems that make the Gulf of Mexico one of the best diving destinations on the planet.
But you don’t have to have a phD in marine biology to appreciate what the Gulf of Mexico has to offer, you just need a snorkel and a pair of flippers.
