We love Morocco: the colours, the sounds, the arabic influence and berber culture. We can tailor-make your dream trip to this rich and vibrant North African country to include everything from authentic, luxurious hotels and riads, private guided tours of souks, deserts and mountain paths and even recommend you the best hammams and restaurants, or get you into the sky in a hot air balloon.
Here is just one of our favourite three-stop trips to inspire you to discover some of Morocco’s gems. Get in touch to find out more.
medina madness
Start off at the berber-lux La Maison Arabe in the heart of the city’s medina, nestled in narrow streets with high clay walls. Settle in and enjoy the two swimming pools, complementary breakfast (fresh Moroccon pancakes, anyone?) and afternoon tea (try the traditional mint) before hitting the souks. Our local guides will show you the hidden parts which most visitors miss.Visit the wool-dyers and leather-makers, and hear the clink-clink of the metalworkers’ tools as they hand-make decorative lamps, plates and bowls.
Haggle for anything from jewellery to hand-carved wooden trinkets, herbs and spices, shoes, leather bags and belts. Our guide will show you the best quality shops and give you insight into the fascinating sights, for a real under-the-skin experience.
desert dreaming
Now it’s time to escape the city, and no-where is more open and free than the desert. Drive over towering sand dunes in a 4×4 and see nothing but sand and blue skies. No buildings, no people, just total silence. Sleep in a simple yet comfortable tented camp (think proper beds and meals cooked for you the traditional berber way) and ride camels through the sand. At night, dine on slow-cooked tagine by the bonfire, and fall asleep to deep silence under the brightest stars you are ever likely to see.
mountain luxury
And finally: some mountain pampering. We love Kasbah Ksar Shama in the Atlas mountains for it’s authentic Moroccan décor and laid-back comfort. For a little more luxury, you can’t beat the Kasbah Tamadot for a world-class experience. To stay here, ask us about upgrading.
Wherever you stay, take guided mountain treks to suit your fitness level, and stop for tea in a real berber village. We can arrange horse trekking through the Ourika Valley for experienced riders, and those visiting in summer should not miss Setti Fatma waterfalls and it’s nearby mud brick village.
For special occasions, why not ask us to arrange a hot air balloon ride over the Atlas, an incredible experience well worth the early wake-up. Closer to home, there’s scenic tennis at both hotels (keeping your eye on the ball, not the views, can be tricky), the sun-kissed swimming pools and, of course, the all-important spas for a renewing traditional hammam and massage. You’ll come back down to earth sparkling.
