It was just over two weeks ago that Sydney’s Bondi Beach became the spiritual home of sculpture in Australia.
For 17 days the coastal walk that runs between the Bondi and Tamarama was dotted with more than 100 works of art as Sculpture by the Sea rolled into town.
But just as quickly as the national and international artists descended on the city, they were gone.
Art lovers heading to Australia in the New Year don’t need to panic though. The winding up of Sculpture by the Sea doesn’t mean the country has a large artistic void which the numerous granite, wooden and steel monoliths once occupied.
Far from it. In fact Sculpture by the Sea is heading west, 2,050 miles west to be exact, to the city of Perth.
And while the beach at Bondi is magnificent (and the exhibition was pretty good too), we can’t wait to see the Perth event, which will open on Cottesloe Beach on March 4th and run until March 23rd.
