The wine in Adelaide is always top notch. So waiting for a specific time to go tasting is unnecessary.
There are a huge number of vineyards and some spectacular varieties of grape on offer in the region. And since the Adelaide Hills region was one of the first places Europeans settled in South Australia the grapes are that bit older and (to us at least) that bit tastier.
In fact, the first grapes were planted outside Adelaide in 1839, just three years after South Australia became a state.
As we’ve said, the wine here is good all year round, but if you do happen to be there when the Adelaide Hills Food and Wine Festival is on (it starts on January 24th), you’re in for a treat.
There will be experts on hand to help you sift through the hundreds of bottles of shiraz, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc and the gourmet dining and laidback Australian vibe will make it an unforgettable experience.
What’s more, as well as having some of Australia’s finest wines, the region is a gateway to the Australian countryside. But it’s also close enough to civilization to make a trip their both an adventure and a luxury.
