If you’re looking for the most romantic place to propose to your lover this Valentine’s Day forget Paris or Venice. Make a grand gesture and head down south to New Zealand. After all, one of the top 10 places in the world to propose on Valentine’s Day is found on New Zealand’s North Island, in the town of Rotorua.
Rotorua’s Lake Okareka Lodge has been named second in the top 10 places in the world to propose on Valentine’s Day in a list released by US-based HotelsCombined.com, the world’s largest online hotel search engine website. First place went to Hotel de France in Vienna, Austria.
This five-star lodge has been growing in reputation in international luxury travel over the past few years and it has a string of awards to it name, including the World’s Best Country House title in the 2009 World Luxury Hotel Awards.
Okareka Lodge stole the hearts of HotelsCombined.com for its privacy and beautiful settings, ideal for an intimate proposal. It is a three-suited lodge accessible only by private boat or plane and one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking secluded retreats. The lodge can only be booked for one party at a time and can sleep up to nine people.
The lodge’s manager, Ms Moore, has disclosed that there have been several proposals at the lodge that have been particularly extravagant. One man wrote his proposal in the sand for his girlfriend to see as they flew over on a helicopter and another hid the engagement ring in the dessert. But her lips are sealed as to whether anyone was popping the question at the lodge this Valentine’s Day.
