Yes, we love this glorious planet of ours, but right now we’re having somewhat of a full blown crush on South America. Why? Put simply, South America is a traveller’s paradise: a place of out of this world landscapes, unrivalled wildlife, and parties guaranteed to have you dancing for days on end. We love the spirit of the people (utterly infectious) and the terrain is diverse beyond belief: ethereal glaciers, lakes and waterfalls, the Atacama Desert, thronging jungles and endlessly winding rivers.

From Cape Horn to Quito, this region is a true speciality of ours. For evidence, here’s a video of Anton, our South America expert, chatting about why it’s a smoking hot destination for 2009.

We reckon Colombia is the unsung hero of South America, full of undiscovered surprises from rolling hills of coffee plantations to gorgeous colonial towns. One of our favourite spots is Cartagena, a heady, decadent and dizzyingly atmospheric city on the Caribbean coast, which is most definitely “of the moment”. For Latin Americans, Cartagena is their Venice, their Paris, their City of Dreams. Intrigued? Here is a Close Up on Colombia.

Alongside Colombia’s Cartegena and its up-and-coming capital of Bogota, Argentina’s Buenos Aires is giving Rio a run for its money in the South American party stakes. All sorts of things are brewing in this funky, friendly city, like the opening of Francis Ford Coppola’s new boutique retreat.

The one rule to remember: eat late and don’t even think of heading to a club before the early hours (most don’t open until 2am). Once the witching hour is underway, the Argentinean party people come out to play. Take a look at knilly’s recent adventures in Argentina to watch her delving into the best of Argentina’s food and wine culture.

Oh and shhh, but we have a big secret for you: just take a glimpse at our newest find at a secret spot in the tropical northeast of Brazil called Jeriocoacoara.

We could go on forever, but we’ve decided to leave you with a little taste of Peru. Here’s a short (and slightly shakey) video of Shaun testing out our newest adventure experience, biking from the Andes to the Amazon.

The options are endless, one thing is certain: South America will meet your wildest travel dreams. We’d love to take you there, so pick up the phone or fill out the form below if you’re looking for a South American adventure of your own.
