Central America is earmarked as a must visit region at the moment, and Nicaragua is the perfect example of why. Beautiful landscapes still untouched by mass market tourism, pretty colonial towns, warm coastal waters and stunning beaches with a plethora of incredible activities to enjoy - it's a cliché, but for a tropical holiday, Nicaragua really does 'have it all'. Flying into the capital Managua, you'll spend the first three to four days in the southern San Juan region where you can kayak, mountain bike and raft around the San Juan River and in the Guatuzos nature reserve (be sure to make time while here for a thrilling crocodile safari). Afterward, return to Managua to pick up a self-drive 4x4 or take a transfer to the areas of Granada and Cerro Negro.
Over the next week enjoy time zip lining through the jungle canopy, trekking around the Mesaya Volcano range and finish with arguably the most incredible extreme activity in the world - volcano surfing. In Cerro Negro it is possible to ride the 'ring of fire' as you surf down the side of the volcano, passing over still warm ashes. A simply phenomenal experience, and the perfect sign off for a trip of outstanding adventure in one of the world's greatest tropical destinations.
