If films like Point Break and Blue Crush still set your heart racing with anticipation then we've got just the experience to make your epic surf dreams a reality. This is the ultimate 'heli-surfing' adventure (and yes, we really do mean 'heli-surfing') all in pursuit of the perfect wave. Wondering how (and where) we could possibly pull off something so extreme? Where else than the true land of adventure: New Zealand. With seemingly endless miles of coastline and some of the most incredible scenery around, these islands are a heli-surfing dream come true.
Time is a luxury these days, and with our busy working lives there's simply not enough of it to go around. Long gone are the days of driving from coast to coast and waiting for the perfect wave break. Now it's all about jetting from swell to swell chasing velvet-smooth tunnels, supertubes, perfect peelers or gnarly freight trains (as the locals would say) as quickly as possible. The solution? Heli-surfing. All you need is local knowledge, private land access and one minor ingredient - a helicopter. Luckily, we have it all. And the best part about this trip is it can take place all year round; with two islands and 4 coasts there is always somewhere to surf.
Travelling by helicopter means we'll find you the best possible surf on the day and as a result your final itinerary isn't set in stone until a week before you travel. And even then it can change at the last minute depending on which direction the swell is heading. Trust us, flexibility is key and with such attention to detail, you'll be sure to get the most out of your surfing adventure.
So how does it work? Well each day you'll set off with your pilot and relish the exhilarating experience of flying over glaciers, waterfalls and rain forest to reach deserted reefs and beaches where you'll search for the ultimate surf. You can expect around 3-4 hours flying time a day, stopping off along the way to test the surf. Travelling by helicopter not only gives you excellent bragging rights but also means you can access isolated wave breaks, escaping the crowds and move from beach to beach with ease if you're not getting the clean barrels you're after.
In the evenings you'll relax and recuperate in a selection of New Zealand's finest beachside lodges enjoying local cuisine and savouring some delicious local wines or perhaps, the true surfers way with just a few cold beers round a fire on the beach. The perfect end to an action packed day in the water.
Stunning scenery, remote waves and kiwi charm. Sound like a dream? Let the hunt begin
