All Year Round
We know how much you like a real tropical haven, and the remote village of Montanita on the stunning west coast of Ecuador is just that. In fact, we'd go so far as to say that this is the heavenly beach paradise you have always dreamt of. The colourful rustic village is something of a well-kept secret, which is amazing since it has unimaginable surf and is home to one of the best beach 'scenes' in South America. Laid-back to the point of horizontal during the day, Montanita buzzes by night...think beach barbeques, moonlit fires and live music on the sand. This intoxicating combination has made it one of our must visit places for 2008.
Spend your time lazing in the sun and beach-hopping at your leisure; for something more adventurous why not take some surfing lessons in La Punta (the best possible spot), or go whale watching, diving, mountain biking, or climbing in the beautiful Changon Colanche Mountains that are set just back from the coast. We can also organise car hire to allow you to explore further flung stretches of coastline at your leisure. As alternative activities go, this place is pretty special.
Whether you want to be in the centre of the action in Montanita village itself or somewhere a little more remote for the ultimate "escape from it all" experience, we can find the perfect accomadation to fit your holiday wishes. In town we recommend Charo's, a great little place beset with a boho hippy vibe that appeals to surfers and sun worshipers alike. Just outside Montanita, we love the gorgeous Samai Lodge, set up on a hillside with stunning views of the ocean. Both offer quality rooms and breathtaking ocean views. Charo's is closer to the beach and the pulsating vibe of Montanita, but Samai offers a quieter, more spiritual place to revitalise.
Combining your beach break with a stopover in Quito is the ideal way to get the most out of your trip to Ecuador. Flying into Quito, you can spend a couple of days exploring the ancient culture, history and social scene of this vibrant colonial city. You will also get the chance to visit the legendary Otavalo Market and the breathtaking Avenue of Volcanoes.
Whether it's pure beach time, or chilled cultural saturation, Montanita has the perfect mix for a truly unforgettable South American break.
