  Café Cultura is a great base in Quito. This old-world mansion is something of an inner-city retreat among the hustle and bustle of the capital. Different modern artists have painted frescoes throughout the hotel, adding to its unique charm. True to its name, it also features a café bistro that serves fresh, exotic food throughout the day.
  
  Right on the beach, Charo's Hostal has beautiful views over the ocean but is still within walking distance of the town centre. All rooms are modern and have private bathroom and hot water. The hotel also has a great bar and restaurant with excellent service. The property owners speak English and are on hand for any questions you may have about the town and travelling.
  
  For a more remote possibility try the Samai eco-lodge. Set 330 feet above sea level the cabins have magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and cloud forest, and have been set-up according to a mix of Feng Shui, Andean and Amazonian cosmogonies. Excellent vegetarian and seafood cuisine are served at the authentic Ecuadorian restaurant, much of the produce coming from the Samai's own organic vegetable gardens. This oasis offers spiritual breaks, with aromatherapy, meditation and Shamanic healings as their specialities.
