Villa Pekka is a luxury haven in Tahko, at the heart of Europe's most expansive lake district. With over a thousand lakes available, it's only right that we give you one of your own, and Pekka has magnificent views of the water from its enviable hillside location. The interior, by Finnish design angel Tiina Ruotsi, is as breathtaking as the landscape. Dark wood floors, brickwork walls and stone fireplaces keep the spacious living areas cosy in the snowy Finnish winters whilst floor-to-ceiling windows flood the house with natural light in the summer.
The beauty of a break in Finland (and the reason we're so keen to get you there) is its versatility: every season has its own activities and advantages. The sunny summer will have you rambling through the pines, canoeing and floating in the lake, whereas the peaceful winter can be spent indulging in a range of snow sports. Skiing, sleigh-riding and whizzing around on a snowmobile are just a few of your options, after which you'll thoroughly deserve a gentle steam in your own personal sauna and a refreshing plunge in the lake - seriously, we're not kidding (check out our pick).
When you're not busy getting back to nature, be sure to drop in at a few of Tahko's bars and restaurants. Open year-round, they offer the opportunity to get acquainted with the locals and their fantastic cuisine (cloudberries anyone?). We can already picture you resting up on
