Ah the wilderness - how we love it. Just the word has us picturing ourselves on a horse (no other animal will do in the wilderness) with some wildlife close at hand and an endless expanse of sky on the horizon. At least that's how it should be. The runaway popularity of African safaris in recent years means that you're in danger of finding yourself in a cluster of frantically reversing jeeps whilst the leopard you spotted has long since legged it back into the bush. But as with everything, there's one way, and then there's the Black Tomato way...
Kenya's remote Chyulu Hills are the setting for our intrepid horseback safari. The range, believed to be one of the youngest in the world, is vast and varied: deep ash craters and volcanic cones give way to rolling pastures whilst strands of lush lava forest creep in from the Masai plains. As you trot though on your pony, gazing down at the quiet landscape, we know you'll be thinking - "ah, not a jeep in sight". This is uninhabited landscape at its breathtaking best.
But don't think this trip is all about the lush plains and the blue sky -- you're here to see the lovely animals after all. Trust us, there's no better place from which to take in the wonders of African big game, than from the saddle: lions, leopard, cheetah, elephant, hippo and antelope roam the plains in abundance and with the expert knowledge of your mounted guides you?ll be cantering alongside the herds in no time.
You horseback safari will follow the routes carved out by nomadic tribes since time began, so in keeping with these ancient footsteps, nights will be spent in a mobile tented camp (luxury of course). From sleeping under the stars to wildlife tracking in the hills, our secret safari gives you an opportunity to wander off the beaten track and into the real Africa. This is a trip for intrepid animal lovers and peace-and-quiet fans alike.
