On a journey like this musty museums just don’t cut the mustard so venture further afield to explore the sprawling ancient ruins of Monte Alban and one of Mexico’s most mystical burial grounds at Mitla. We guarantee you’ll find it far more appetising than your average history lesson. And if you’re looking for adventure we’ve got just the experience to get your teeth into. Delve into the Sierra Norte Mountains on a guided trek to the sky for the chance to meet the ‘cloud people’. This isolated indigenous group lives high in villages shrouded by clouds. Should surfing prove too strenuous, rent a boat to check out marine turtles and porpoises and – for true exclusivity – to access otherwise-inaccessible shores. At night enjoy fresh seafood in local restaurants before showing off your tan in one of the many relaxed bars that speckle the town.
