Day 1:
Arrive in Nairobi where you'll be met by your tour guide. You'll be briefed on the safari before the four-hour drive to Emali, where you'll branch off for the beautiful Chyulu Hills. The afternoon will be spent at camp and undertaking a short ride to familiarise yourself with the horses.
Day 2:
After breakfast ride south-east across the semi-arid Muereshi Plains and on to the slopes of Ol Doinyo Sambu Hill and continuing on to Ol Doinyo Enkiroriti at the northern end of the Chyulu Hills. You can expect to see a variety of game in this area, including the rare gerenuk and the fringe eared oryx.
Day 3:
Morning and evening rides on horseback, exploring the stunningly scenic landscape of the Mbirikani Steppe in search of white-bearded wildebeest, Thomson's gazelle, lion, cheetah and striped hyena.
Day 4:
After breakfast you'll ride across the savanna plains leaving El Mau Hill to the west to spot lion, elephant and Cape buffalo. Herds of antelope can be seen against the backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After a picnic lunch, the trail takes you up into the wooded Chyulu Hills, to an altitude of 5,000ft.
Day 5:
Ride along the crest of the volcanic mountains, covered in red oat grass and copses of indigenous forest where you'll see Coke's hartebeest, East-African eland and Chanler's mountain reedbuck. After a picnic lunch at an altitude of over 6,000ft descend to Oltiasika and the night's camp.
Day 6:
A full day riding past the Lolterish stream with panoramic views dominated by Mawenzi (16,900 ft.) and Kibo (19,320 ft.), the twin peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
Day 7:
A full day of game driving in 4x4 safari vehicles in Amboseli National Park. The park boasts a large and well-protected elephant population and phenomenal birdlife.
Day 8:
Return by vehicle, approximately 5 hours, to your Nairobi hotel. Day rooms will be booked so that you may shower and relax before international flights home. For those interested in shopping, a trip to find East African gemstones, bronze sculptures, Africana jewellery and other curios can be arranged.
