Introduction
Here at
Black Tomato we believe that it's really important to have a clear and
transparent policy on how, as a travel company, we are supporting efforts to
better understand and tackle climate change.
It's no
secret that the subject of carbon offsetting is a hotly debated topic at the
moment and as we're not ones to stick our heads in the sand, we believe it's
vitally important that we invest our money, and yours, into what we feel are the
most effective and relevant solutions.
For us, it
extends further than reducing carbon emissions....where possible we want to make
a difference to local communities as well.
So how
are we doing this?
We have
carefully hand picked projects in local areas around the globe that we believe have
a positive and tangible impact both on the environment and for the people
living there.
In Asia, for example, we're supporting a project that will provide
a Himalayan community with solar panel greenhouses. This will not only enable them to be self-sufficient but will
reduce the number of planes that will need to fly in with imported goods.
Across the Indian Ocean, we're contributing to the construction
of a wind farm in Madagascar an environmentally friendly method of generating
electricity which will also increase the reliability of the power supply to
local communities.
Seeing is believing
Talking about our pledge to carbon offsetting is one thing,
putting our money where our mouth is, however, is another. Because we believe that you care too,
we want to share our passion and give you the opportunity to experience the
work we are supporting first hand.
Every year our aim is to send someone out to each project to
get under the skin of the scheme and verify that we are living up to our
promises (a trip we will of course offset).
For the chance to go on one of our Green check missions, you
simply have to offset your carbon when you travel with us. Ask your travel consultant when you
book how we can help you to do this.
