Moonrise on the pans

Imagine nothing but flat horizon as far as the eye can see; no vegetation, no habitation. Jeeps roar you in to the middle of nowhere with all your food, and your guide digs a hole for the call of nature (don’t worry, he brings a discrete tent to erect around it - no foliage to cover your modesty here!). As you walk, the salt crunching underfoot like thin ice, time becomes immemorial as there is nothing to measure the distance by. When evening comes, watch the sun set around your fire, then turn around to see the moon rise. Magical.
