Iceland's capital Reykjavik is perfect for mini adventures - surrounded by mountains, you can be in teh great outdoors in minutes. It's also full of cool bars and shops. Our ports of call included Vegamot - great for fish (enq vegamot.is) - and Damon Albarn's Kaffibarinn (enq [00 354] 551 1588). After breakfast at the art-deco Hotel Borg, we raced quad bikes around the lave beds in the Valley of the Black Sand, a spectacular, otherworldly landscape about an hour's drive from town.
