The City - Damascus. A bit like Marrakech 20 years ago, it combines the traditional qualities of the Middle East with something all its own.
The Hotel - Neeleshwar Hermitage, Kerala. India's North Kerala is very hot right now. On the edge of a forest near Malabar, this hotel is built around the movements of the sun.
The Beach - Jose Ignacio, Uruguay. Forget Punta del Este and head for this small fishing village 20km up the coast - a very hip spot full of great bars.
The Festival - Iceland Airwaves. Great emerging bands and a great weekend hang out in Reykjavik. The northern lights are just kicking in at this time too. 15 to 19 October
